Biofireplace is a source of open fire that runs on environmentally friendly liquid biofuel. It consists of a hearth, in which combustion takes place directly, and a portal, which frames the hearth from the fuel tank. Let's consider these parts of the fireplace separately.
Bio fireplace elements
The fuel tank is a part of the hearth in the form of a metal container filled with a swab. The container can have different shapes, but it is always located at the bottom. At the top of the tank there is a hole through which alcohol vapors escape - it also serves as a nozzle. The biofireplace fuel itself deserves a separate mention.

Bioethanol, denatured alcohol - alcohol obtained from organic products by distilling fermented wort. In its original form, it is edible ethyl alcohol. To prevent its use in food, it is denatured, or simply poisoned. In this case, an indicator, usually purple, is usually added to the liquid.
The hearth is the place of direct burning of the flame. Small models - desktop, mobile, camping - combine the hearth with a fuel tank without additional parts (except for a cover for long-term storage). Large models have a metal frame in the hearth area, a valve, a control panel and a hidden piezoelectric element for ignition.
The portal is the form in which the hearth is enclosed. The portal can have a wide variety of forms, but most modern biofireplaces are executed in an ascetic high-tech style.

Burning biofireplace
Biofireplace is essentially an alcohol burner made in a given shape. The swab in the fuel tank serves to create a capillarity effect - the liquid moves along the fibers to the place of combustion. The burner is based on pyrolysis - combustion of gas, in this case bioethanol vapor. Due to the absence of solid impurities and inclusions in the fuel material, combustion products can be attributed to environmentally friendly substances.
Advantages of the bio fireplace
Biofireplace is a new product on the market that is rapidly gaining popularity. This is not only a tribute to fashion, but also a lot of beneficial benefits.
Convenience. The purity of combustion emissions allows the use of a bio fireplace without a chimney. This decisive advantage makes it an exceptionally technological product - the fireplace can be placed anywhere that suits the installation requirements. It does not require a separate foundation and heat-resistant floor piping. Approximately 50% of these products are made in a portable version, the rest are mounted on the floor, walls and even suspended from the ceiling.

Manufacturability. The Alcohol Burner Hearth can be purchased separately, without a portal. It can then be installed in an existing traditional fireplace insert. This will preserve the function and appearance of the interior and eliminate the need for solid fuel procurement and the risk of smoke. Full-fledged biofireplaces, due to their simplicity and low cost of construction, are made in a sufficient range of sizes. The portal can also be made to order from any material.
Safety. Factory fireplaces are supplied complete with protective panels and covers, so the biofireplace portal can be made of plasterboard or wood, without fear of overheating ignition. Ignition and combustion of fuel occurs without sparks and flame fluctuations (when using a special lighter). When burned, the fuel decomposes into water vapor and CO 2. The concentration of carbon dioxide is negligible and does not affect the air quality in the presence of standard ventilation.
Functionality. In a conventional fireplace, most of the heat is removed along with toxic exhaust gases through the chimney. In a biofireplace, the entire combustion temperature is transferred to the ambient air. A medium sized device is equivalent to a 3 kW electric heater.
Reliability, simplicity of the device. Basic models of alcohol fireplaces do not have mechanisms, moving parts, abrasive parts. If used correctly, these are "eternal" devices (service life is unlimited). "Bioburning" does not form carbon deposits, which reduces the maintenance of the fireplace to wiping along with other elements of the interior. More complex and expensive models have electronic control - from the panel, remote control or Wi-Fi from a tablet or phone. Like any electronic device, they can fail, but not more often than others.
Originality and beauty. The new biofireplace can be matched to absolutely any design - from minimalist cold high-tech to luxurious baroque. The portal can be ordered in any workshop, from any material. Such an open fire in the middle of the room will become the emotional center of the whole house, intuitively reminding of the rest of distant ancestors at night by the fire. Always even and stable flames are a "living" piece of interior that can be moved at your discretion.
Cost. The price of the device itself together with the portal does not exceed the price of a fireplace of the same format with a traditional or electrical layout.
Disadvantages of biofireplace
Along with its advantages, this product has its own disadvantages, which are a tribute to convenience, safety and environmental friendliness.
Dependence on one type of fuel. The burner works only on alcohols, while a regular fireplace can be fired with any solid combustible substance.
Relative high cost of fuel. A medium-sized heating block (burner) consumes 0.3–0.4 liters per hour. The average cost of 1 liter of fuel is 200–250 rubles *. Burning a fireplace for one hour will cost about 100 rubles.
* We are talking about factory fuel for biofireplaces.

Airing. Mandatory requirement for the room, since the fireplace does not have its own chimney.
The minimum area of the room. The room in which the hearth is installed must be at least 25 sq. m.

DIY biofireplace
As mentioned above, a liquid fuel biofireplace is an alcohol pyrolysis burner. All we need to do to get a room safe fire source is to arrange all the elements in a decorative way. We will describe the method of creating a desktop portable bio fireplace, on the basis of the principle of operation of which a stationary hearth can be created.
Create the base
The base of a tabletop decorative burner should be a stable box or container that will hold the entire fuel tank. It can be made from wood, metal, stone, or selected from existing parts. It can be of any geometric shape, but it must necessarily have a bottom. On the inside of the sides, it is necessary to sew a 20 mm wide strip for the subsequent installation of the mesh and the bulb.

We select a fuel tank
The container for the flammable liquid must be metal. You can cut it out of a tin can and provide it with a metal lid with a hole. The height of the container should be less than the height of the base by 20–30 mm and freely enter it.

Lattice
Designed to visually hide the burner. It is advisable to choose a rigid lattice with a cell of 5-15 mm. Cut the grate 1 cm less than the inner dimensions of the base box.
At this stage, the "fireplace" can already be used. To do this, you need to install a container with fuel in the base box, immerse the wick and thread it through the grate. Install the lattice itself on the planks of the base box, put beautiful stones on top and press the wick with them. The result is a flame that breaks through the stones.

This arrangement provides the maximum proximity to fire, which negatively affects the fire safety of the product. Almost all tabletop fireplaces have one thing in common - a "well" with translucent walls in the form of a bulb or rectangular pipe.
Create transparent walls
To do this, you need to cut the glass in such a way that, after connecting the walls, the flask can be installed on the rails. You can glue the walls with ordinary silicone sealant.

When creating a project for a tabletop fireplace, keep in mind the convenience of refueling a fuel tank.
An alcohol burner is a useful thing in the household, hiking and unforeseen occasions. It can be made from a couple of cans.

Alcohol candles can also be helpful.

Larger items can be created using the same principle. When using homemade bio burners, remember the main rule - the fuel must be clean. However, even it can be made independently by mixing 10 parts of medical alcohol with 1 part of AI-95 gasoline.
