The best option for making a light and durable folding table on your own will be wood, since it has gone through a full and correct cycle of processing and drying, it is a light, durable and environmentally friendly material. Moreover, it is easy to work with it and to master the initial skills of creating various wooden products can anyone who does not have thorough knowledge of woodworking or furniture making.

In this article we will tell you how to make such a table with your own hands.

Required materials for making a table

The materials used for the manufacture of this piece of furniture and accessories can be purchased in large building supermarkets, we will need:

glued board made of natural wood 600x800 uncoated;
timber 20x30, which requires 6.7 rm, but since stores sell bars 2 rm long, we buy 4 pcs;
keeper tape in the amount of 2.5 p.m.;
furniture corners (photo 2) - 4 pcs.;
narrow furniture hinges - 4 pcs.;
rivets - 2 sets;
countersunk screws 4x19 - 40 pcs.;
countersunk screws 4x35 - 16 pcs.;
countersunk screws 2.5x11 - 2 pcs.;
special furniture hairpin ø8 (photo 3) - 4 pcs;
ø8 wing nut (photo 3) - 4 pcs;
reinforced washer ø8 - 4 pcs.

If it was not possible to purchase narrow furniture hinges, ordinary ones in width are bought, of which narrow ones are made. In the manufacture of the table, hinges were used, made by cutting standard hinges into two parts (photo 4).

What tool is needed

In the process of making a table, you will need tools:

a hacksaw for wood with a fine tooth;
electric drill with drills ø8 and ø9;
curly screwdriver;
roulette;
simple pencil;
when making narrow loops from standard ones - a hacksaw for metal or a grinder.

Folding table manufacturing process

After purchasing all the materials and preparing the tools, we begin to cut the timber into table parts that have a certain length. To assemble a folding table, you will need the following pieces of timber (in brackets are the numbers of the parts indicated on the table diagram):

670 mm - 4 pcs. (2, 3, 4, 5)
560 mm - 3 pcs. (6, 9, 11)
760 mm - 1 pc. (12)
500 mm - 1 pc. (8)
480 mm - 1 pc. (7)
420 mm - 1 pc. (ten)

Initially, we assemble the folding table racks, guided by the presented diagram.

We take the prepared parts 2, 3, 6, 8 and 9, place elements 2 and 3 in parallel to the width that part 8. Next, place element 8 on one edge of the structure, placing it between parts 2 and 3, and overlay elements 6 and 9 on top of the resulting structure along the edges so that a rectangle is formed (see diagram). Then we twist one 4x35 screw in the corners, fastening the structure.

The next step is to check the diagonals of the resulting rectangle, which should be equal. The diagonals are checked with any tape or thread, which measures the distances at the corners, compares, and if they do not coincide, the geometry of the rectangle being created is corrected. After checking the diagonal, we make the final fastening of the structure, screwing it into the corners along the second 4x35 screw. Element 8 is fixed with 4x35 screws to element 9, and for additional strength in the area where elements 8 and 9 are attached to parts 2 and 3, we fasten furniture corners with 4x19 screws (photo 2).

Similarly, from elements 4, 5, 7, 10 and 11 we create the second folding stand of the wooden table. It is only necessary to take into account when fixing part 11, that on both sides from the edges of the part to the edges of the resulting rectangle there should be a distance of 40 mm.

We fasten, guided by the diagram, the created racks to the table top by means of prepared hinges. The indents of the posts from the edges of the table top should be as follows - from the sides having a width of 600 mm, it is necessary to retreat by 5 mm, and from the sides of 800 mm, the indent will be 30 mm. We fix the hinges with 4x19 screws as shown in photo 4.

The next operation is to fasten the sections of the keeper tape. Having placed the table legs vertically, we measure the required length of pieces of tape to fix the table legs relative to the table top. One end of each tape is fixed to the tabletop by means of 4x19 screws, and the other end is fixed to the table stand by means of rivets (photo 5), with the ability to disconnect this end if necessary. One of the parts of the rivet is attached to the post by means of a 2.5x11 screw. Both pieces of tape should be secured on one side as shown in the diagram.

Next, we place special furniture pins. We take a part, which is a crossbar, from a bar with a length of 760 mm and, departing from each edge by 15 mm, we make holes with a 9 mm drill. Then, putting a wooden folding table on the racks, we outline the location of this crossbar from the side of the location of the tape segments. This bar can be positioned arbitrarily, guided only by the fact that it should be located on the side of fastening the tape segments. Having outlined the location of the furniture studs, we drill the holes with a ø8 drill to the required depth and screw in the studs. We mark the remaining two pins on the table in a folded state - we lay the crossbar on the table in the way shown in photo 6, outline the location of the holes, drill them with a ø8 drill and screw in the pins. The fastening of the crossbar in each case is done with a ø8 wing nut when using a reinforced ø8 washer.

Finally, the folding table is ready, you just need to properly assemble and disassemble it.

When assembled, the table looks as shown in photos 7 and 8. Unscrew the wing nuts and, removing the washers, disconnect the crossbar (photo 9). Next, we unfasten the end of one of the tapes fixed on the stand (photo 5) for further disassembly of the wooden table (photo 10). During operation, it is enough to unfasten or fasten one of the two tapes. Next, we put on the table first a wide stand (photo 11), followed by a narrow stand (photo 12), fix the crossbar and ribbons on the assembled table (photo 6).
