Laminated interior doors are an alternative to the most expensive solid wood doors. The latter are elite doors. However, due to the need for mass construction, the search for a cheap alternative has always been carried out. For a long time, such an alternative was a veneered interior door.

Such doors are certainly much cheaper than solid wood doors. However, they have some annoying disadvantages. First of all, it is such a really unpleasant thing as insufficient strength of the veneer and its adhesion to the door surface. This is usually encountered when installing doors. Especially many problems occur for those who prefer to install interior doors with their own hands. This is the kind of trick that has ruined the lives of more than one jack of all trades.

The fact is that when the platbands are cut, if you just start to saw them with a saw, sooner or later the veneer peels off, sometimes over a large area. This is a rather noticeable defect, so you have to buy additional trims, which is not cheap. The veneer must be cut with a knife. And it is best to contact a company that installs interior doors. The same problem occurs when installing accessories, inserting locks, hinges, handles, and so on. However, such flaking can also occur during operation if it is unsuccessful to touch the door tangentially with the foot. The same problem existed in the production of inexpensive furniture.

In short, veneering did not meet the requirements of customers and furniture manufacturers. Therefore, the search for an alternative continued. Laminated interior doors have become this alternative. About 30 years ago, the simplest technology, the harbinger of lamination, began to be used in the production of furniture. These were cellulose films impregnated with melamine. They are sometimes called decorative films. The coating is not very durable, but devoid of the disadvantages of veneered doors. And cheaper.

Initially, this technology was used only in the manufacture of furniture, but soon it was used in the manufacture of doors. In the beginning, this technology had its drawbacks, the main one of which was that the melamine paper peeled off. Then they began to use laminate, polymer films, which cover laminated interior doors.

The advantage of this technology, in contrast to older veneering, is, firstly, in the reliability of the coating.

It doesn't flake off. Secondly, this coating itself is stronger than veneer or melamine paper. The third advantage is an almost unlimited number of possible color options, patterns, which can be either for any type of wood, or monochromatic. But the main advantage that laminated interior doors have is the low price.

At the moment, laminated interior doors are the most affordable alternative to expensive solid wood doors and veneered doors. They are cheaper than veneered ones, stronger and more reliable. Of course, there will always be buyers at veneered doors, but the future is definitely in new methods. Laminated interior doors are an example of such new technologies.

The strength of this coating is due to the properties of more advanced plastic composites than those that have been used so far. It practically does not flake off due to the method of application. This takes place in special presses under high pressure and at a fairly high temperature, about 130 degrees Celsius. This is called high pressure laminate. This method provides almost perfect adhesion. Another plus is the protection of interior laminated doors from water and moisture.

But do not get carried away with the pursuit of cheapness. The fact is that lamination technology continues to improve. There are both cheap lamination methods and more expensive ones that give the door surface extra strength. Therefore, it is worth choosing more expensive models of laminated doors.
