The final stage of all construction and repair work is interior decoration, and if not long ago wallpaper or ceramic tiles were the "average" option, today more and more often walls are simply covered with plaster. Today, hundreds of options for such finishes are offered on the shelves of building hypermarkets and in catalogs - both practical options for fans of minimalism, and mixtures for decorative plaster, which serve as a worthy alternative to wallpaper. We bring to your attention a brief overview of the most practical, popular and interesting solutions for finishing walls.

Basic plaster

Mixes based on lime, sand and cement were the first methods of plastering walls, today they are still very popular. Among their advantages are the affordable cost of finishing, ease of application, high plasticity, which allows you to eliminate wall defects, moisture resistance. You can work with this material at temperatures above 5 ° C. Such plaster can serve as both the final finish and the base for any other decorative material.

"Stone" plaster

Despite the laboriousness of working with it, stone (or, as it is called, "pebble") plaster is very widely used for the final decoration of cottages and offices. And this is not surprising, with its help you can achieve the effect of old marble or granite walls, it is especially effective in fairly large rooms with natural light. These mixtures are based on stone chips with a diameter of 2-5 mm, and after its application, the walls are processed with a chisel or other tools to create a textured surface.

Multi-effect plaster

The group includes a fairly large number of premium line dry mixes. This finely dispersed plaster allows you to achieve the effect of silk or velvet tapestries, morocco, wood, marble, suede, it is effective in any light and in any room. When choosing such a plaster, make sure that the manufacturing company has permission to use Rostekhnadzor, and the application should be entrusted to professionals - this work is quite laborious and has too many subtleties that are learned in practice. Moisture-resistant, environmentally friendly and breathable designer plaster is perfect even for bedrooms and children's rooms, and its service life is measured in decades.

Sgraffito

Perhaps, only plaster made in the old technique of "sgraffito" can compete with the previous type of decoration. Its principle is quite simple - first, a basic dark layer of plaster is applied to the wall, then a light one, and with the help of a chisel the pattern is scraped out on the surface, "highlighting" the dark base.

Acrylic primers

Polymer-based finishing mixtures appeared in Russia relatively recently, but their unique properties and versatility of application make them increasingly popular. Acrylic primers provide durability even to old, crumbling plaster or paint, penetrating deeply and binding the particles into a monolithic layer. The line of these plasters includes water-soluble and moisture-resistant mixtures, base mixtures and decorative options, all of them perfectly remove steam, condensation does not form on them.

Silicone coatings

Such mixtures are ideal for finishing rooms with high humidity or strict sanitary standards. The silicone primer seems to "repel" water, but at the same time does not retain steam, is resistant to frequent washing and mechanical stress, and has a very long service life. Silicone plaster has proven itself also in buildings suffering from fungus. The only drawback of silicone compounds is their high cost, which, however, is compensated by their long service life.
