The masonry seams of the walls of a brick house must be embroidered immediately after laying the wall. However, there are situations when the house was built long ago, but the masonry is not embroidered. Such a house is not very nice to look at. This "defect" can and should be corrected, but now we will tell you how to do it.
If you bought a house, and it is complex without joining, or the fence is built by the old owners without such "trifles" as joining brickwork, do not be upset, a little patience and skill and your house will please the eye. In order to perform the joining, you first need to remove the old masonry mortar to a depth of 10-15 millimeters. It is most convenient to carry out this operation with a specially sharpened chisel or a piece of a sharpening wheel. Instead of a chisel, you can take an old file, preferably a round or semicircular file. When removing old mortar, be very careful not to damage the brick. If the masonry mortar is not of very good quality, then it can be removed with a sharpened wooden block made of hard wood. The leg of an old, broken chair is perfect for this.
After you remove the masonry mortar to the required depth, it is necessary to start removing dust and dirt from the treated surface. This is best done with a special high pressure washer. After washing the masonry with an apparatus of this type, the wall will not be recognized. If you happen to not have such a device, you can wash the wall with water and a stiff brush. After washing the walls, the cut seams must be covered with a solution of polyvinyl acetate emulsion (PVA) in water or with Bustilat glue. Then fill (cover) the seams with a solution. Fill the seams slightly wet, if the wall has time to dry, it must first be moistened with water. You can fill the joints by preparing a mortar from dry mixes (dry mixes are suitable for grouting joints in brickwork or for grouting tiles) or by preparing the solution yourself. With large volumes of work, it is much more economical to prepare the solution yourself.
When preparing the solution yourself, it is necessary to mix the components well to the state of a plastic mass. The composition of the mortar is the same as for brickwork. In order to emphasize the beauty of the masonry, it is necessary to add dry dyes for masonry to the solution. The color of the dyes and, accordingly, the seams must be selected taking into account the color of the bricks. After filling the masonry joints with mortar. The solution must be allowed time to set. This time depends on the air temperature and the consistency of the solution and is approximately half an hour to an hour. After the mortar has set, it is necessary to proceed with the jointing itself. The seams are embroidered with special jointing. If you do not have jointing and there is no way to buy it in the store, you can make the jointing yourself from a pipe with a diameter slightly less than the thickness of the masonry joint. After all the work you have done, the wall will not be recognized.
