The hair dryer is electrical, it is also a hot air gun, it is also a thermal blower. The scope is the widest, the price is low even for professional models.

This is how you can briefly describe this very popular tool. Why popular? Because, in theory, he is able to perform "a thousand and one" tasks. We list only the most famous:

  • removal of paint, varnish and other materials from various surfaces (most often from wood);

    soldering and molding of plastic;

    deformation of plexiglass, PVC and polystyrene boards;

    protection of wires and cables with a thermoplastic sheath (for example, a cambric with heat shrinkage);

    soft soldering and tinning;

    welding or cutting of linoleum, roofing material, etc.;

    acceleration of gluing processes;

    defrosting;

    drying and blowing surfaces;

    sealing gaps with plastic welding tape;

    repair of skis, boats, bumpers, etc.

    They say that Berlin housewives even get crispy crust on the meringue with the help of a technical hairdryer, which we, of course, do not recommend.

    Electric hair dryer design

    Of course, not every hairdryer is capable of performing all these tasks. The more complex they are, the more functional the model should be. Let's briefly list the main features.

    Smooth temperature control means that the hair dryer can really be configured to handle a wide variety of materials (even two types of plastic can melt at different temperatures) On models without regulation, there is usually a switch between two (less often three) modes: "medium" and "maximum" heating.

    An electronic temperature control system is installed on advanced professional devices. It not only monitors the constancy of the temperature of the outgoing air, but also prolongs the life of the filament. It should be said that the accuracy of temperature control is by no means "surgical", but quite sufficient for all "specialized" operations.

    The heat shield encloses the air supply pipe (nozzle). If it is removable, then without it it is easier to get to some places, but the risk of getting burned or melting something by touching the nozzle increases.

    The closed handle protects the hand from the reflected blast of hot air and splashes of molten material. You should opt for such a layout if an open handle is not a fundamental requirement (for example, because of its compactness).

    The power cord loop and stand-up system make life a lot easier. Rare models do not allow the master to free his hands by hanging the hair dryer or setting it "on the bottom".

    A cold air supply system is needed to quickly cool the surface. In some models, a second nozzle is provided for this, in others there is simply a mode without heating the spiral - this way the hair dryer cools faster after work.

    Temperature indicators - set of LEDs or LCD panel. They help in performing serious professional work.

    Electric hairdryer nozzles

    Easier - nozzles, or nozzles. They are very inexpensive in comparison with the hairdryer itself, but they significantly expand the scope of its application. Here is a short list of their capabilities.

    Focusing (round) - closing gaps and joints with a plastic welding tape; contactless soldering of copper pipes and profiles; repair of skis, boats, etc.

    Flat - removal of old paint, putty, wallpaper, film and veneer; deformation of plexiglass, PVC and polystyrene boards.

    Wide-jet (a kind of flat nozzle) - drying; removal of old paint from large surfaces.

    Glass protective - removal of paint, varnish and putty from windows, glass and other surfaces that cannot withstand high temperatures.

    Reflex - heating of plastic pipes before deformation; welding of self-compressing hoses (for example, on cable ends).

    Slotted (slotted) - cover welding of foil and PVC tarpaulin.

    Carved (cutting) - straight and curved cutting of rigid foams (for example, foam).

    Welded mirrors - contact butt welding of plastic parts (first, the parts are pressed against the welded mirror, and when the temperature reaches their melting point, they are pressed against each other).

    Welded (welding tips) - work with synthetic welding cables.

    Gearbox (reduction). They are used as adapters for slotted and carved nozzles as well as welded mirrors and nozzles. In addition, they are used for spot heating (for example, soldering or welding places).

    The range of useful accessories for hot air dryers also includes paint scrapers (scrapers), holders (handles), pressure rollers and welding rods for welding plastics.

    How to work with an electric hair dryer

    We recommend that beginners read these lines especially carefully (similar words are always found in the operating instructions, but does everyone read it?). Well, professionals can check themselves once again.

    So, in order for your hairdryer to serve for a long time and not cause you any trouble, you need:

    • after turning on the tool, run it dry for about 3 minutes, and before turning it off, let it cool down, driving at the minimum temperature and flow rate for 2-3 minutes;

      select the temperature and flow rate in accordance with the type of work performed;

      When removing lead or chromium oxide paints, take care of ventilation to avoid inhalation of toxic substances;

      work in special clothing (overalls, mittens, etc.);

      ensure a dust extraction during dust-generating operations, otherwise particles deposited on the spiral can cause it to burn out prematurely.

    • How not to work

      You can't:

      • use a hairdryer in the rain or in an environment where water can get inside;

        work near flammable or explosive materials;

        close the air intake ventilation grilles during operation, otherwise there is a high probability of engine overheating;

        use a hot air gun as a household hair dryer (strictly prohibited!).
