The question starting with the words "What should I choose … (paint, varnish, primer, etc.)" is perhaps the most common question among buyers. The funny thing is that it is simply impossible to answer it straight off. As the proposed products are listed, the details begin to emerge: expensive and cheap, the presence or absence of allergies to odor, fast-slow drying, shade, strength, but you never know what else … As a result, a "banal" short question pours out at least a half-hour lecture-consultation …

And yet, what kind of varnish for parquet to buy? Fortunately, if the neighbor was not mistaken in his choice, then the "herd feeling" will help out. But what if not? Then you have to read on …

So, the parquet varnishes presented on the domestic market can be divided into three groups: two-component, one-component and water-based varnishes.

Water-based varnishes have appeared not very long ago. These materials are environmentally friendly, fire and explosion safe, practically do not smell when applied, but at the same time their cost is such that often you have to look for an alternative.

Two-component varnishes form a film as a result of a chemical reaction between the two components - a semi-finished varnish and a hardener - after mixing them. They are quite cheap, but have drawbacks - a pungent odor during varnishing, as well as the need to pre-mix the components, and the finished composition, although stored in a tightly closed jar, is not for long.

One-component varnishes are also not very expensive. They are already ready for use and can be stored in tightly closed containers for a long time. However, these materials contain mineral spirits and therefore produce a pungent odor upon application.

For a long time, only alkyd varnishes were present on the market. Then, to improve the properties, alkyd binders were tried to be modified with polyurethanes. Varnishes based on such a base, as a rule, are harder and more wear-resistant than just alkyd ones, so they are widely used.

Unfortunately, there are still few manufacturers of such products in Russia. Of the nine glossy alkyd-urethane parquet varnishes we selected for testing, the vast majority are imported. This is the reality.

HOW WE TESTED

Almost all of the products were provided by the manufacturers. The test was carried out by specialists in the accredited testing laboratory "ITs Lakokraska" OJSC "NPF" Spektr LK "in Moscow.

The compositions were applied according to the manufacturer's recommendations for the use of materials on samples of block parquet, glass or steel plates, depending on the requirements for test methods. Curing of varnishes took place at a temperature of + 20 + 2 degrees Celsius for the time specified in the instructions for use. Before testing, the samples were kept under normal conditions for 14 days.

Appearance. At the beginning of testing, the decorative properties of the resulting coating (color and quality) were visually evaluated in natural diffused light, and the gloss of the film was evaluated using an FB-2 gloss meter.

Two-layer coating thickness. Usually this indicator is set by the manufacturer. It indicates at what thickness the material will have the given properties. A thin layer will poorly protect the substrate, and too thick will lead to cracking. The thickness that is obtained with the recommended method of application was determined for each product "personally".

Drying time. Usually parquet is varnished in two or three layers, so we were interested in when the next layer of material can be applied (degree of drying 3). To do this, in accordance with GOST 19007, varnishes were applied to glass plates and the time was recorded, after which a sheet of paper on the coating under a load of 200 g for a minute does not stick to it and does not leave traces.

Impact strength of the film. According to GOST 4765, it is expressed in centimeters, denoting the maximum height from which a weight of 1 kg falls onto a lacquered metal plate, without causing mechanical damage to the lacquer film - cracks, crumpling, peeling. Accordingly, the higher the indicator (both literally and figuratively), the less likely it is that a heavy object falling on your varnished floor will ruin the coating.

The hardness of the material. It is determined in accordance with GOST 5233 for pendulum devices ME-3 and TML (pendulum A). This parameter is "responsible" for how easily scratches appear on the surface. Abrasion resistance "sandpaper". For parquet varnishes, this is the most important parameter, because we walk constantly and the operational loads on the floor are very high. According to GOST 20811 (method B), this parameter is determined as the difference in the masses of the varnished plate before and after abrasion with a grinding "sandpaper".

Everything seems to be clear, but in this case, this figure does not give a real picture of what is happening. Since varnishes have different densities, it is more correct to compare them in terms of volumetric indicators, that is, how much material is removed from a unit surface. Among the "test subjects" in terms of abrasion resistance three "leaders" were clearly identified - varnishes produced by TEKS, Marshall and Tikkurila.

Water resistance. The test was carried out in accordance with GOST 9.403 (method A - immersion). For this, the sides and ends of the piece parquet were varnished in two layers with or without impregnation, depending on the manufacturer's recommendations. After complete drying, they were kept for 14 days at a temperature of +20 degrees Celsius. Then, two-thirds were immersed in a container of water and kept there for a week, periodically evaluating their appearance and protective properties. I was pleased that all coatings passed this test as "excellent", without changing the protective and decorative properties.

Resistant to detergents. Although it is not recommended to wash the parquet using household detergents, often housewives, showing excessive cleanliness, add a little washing powder to the water … Hence the conclusion - it is useful to know how harmful the "extreme" operating conditions are.

The prepared samples were placed in a 0.5% solution of "Lotos" powder (GOST 9.403-80) for 24 hours (although according to the method, the duration of such a test was only 15 minutes). After that, the coatings were examined and visible changes were recorded. All samples in such an environment held out "well done".

Durability. Accelerated weather resistance tests were carried out cyclically in accordance with GOST 9.401-91 (method 1) and simulated the conditions of a heated, air-conditioned room. Each cycle involved holding the samples for two hours in a moisture chamber at a temperature of +40 degrees Celsius and a relative air humidity of 100%, then 1 hour in the same chamber with the heating turned off. After that, they were placed in an artificial weather apparatus of the "Xenotest" type and kept there at +60 degrees Celsius under UV irradiation with periodic irrigation with water. Let us warn you right away that the results obtained only give an assessment of the weather resistance of the coating indoors. Mechanical stress and possible damage during operation are not taken into account here. However, many manufacturers cite exactly these data when they talk about the durability of parquet varnishes. The techniques are the same …

All materials tested by us have withstood 25 cycles without changing the protective or decorative properties, corresponding to 10 years of operation in "apartment" conditions.

Elan vernis parquet

One-component varnish based on alkyd-urethane resins (France)

Image
Image

PURPOSE: interior work on all types of wood (solid wood, fiberboard, chipboard).

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

APPEARANCE: colorless transparent composition, forming a glossy surface. There is also a matte varnish.

DENSITY: 0.91 kg / l.

SHARE OF DRY SUBSTANCES (by volume): 48%.

CONSUMPTION: 1 liter per 15 m2 in one layer.

DRYING: "tack-free" - after 2 hours at a temperature of +20 degrees Celsius. The next layer is applied after 24 hours.

THINNER: white spirit.

STORAGE: 2 years in original packaging.

PACKAGING: metal cans of 2.5 and 10 liters.

TEST RESULTS

DRYING: the time we received - 2 hours - coincided with the "tack-free" drying time indicated by the manufacturer.

STRENGTH ON IMPACT: both two- and one-layer coatings withstood a drop of load from a height of 40 cm. Thus, we can conclude that the number of layers in this case does not affect the "overall" strength of the varnish film. On the whole, the value of the parameter is quite normal for such compositions.

HARDNESS: test result - 0.42 TML and 0.64 c.u. according to ME-3. In comparison with the average statistical data, it is even slightly higher than that of polyurethane varnishes, scratches on such a coating occur less often.

ABRASION RESISTANCE: the volumetric index in our measurements was 6.94 cubic mm / m2. Based on this, the recommendation is as follows: Vernis paquet varnish coating will be appropriate in rooms with low operational load. But with a large flow of people, the service life of the coating will be noticeably shorter.

ECOLOGICAL: contains white spirit, when applied, it has a smell. After drying, it is safe for humans and animals.

APPLICATION: the base must be dry and clean. Old varnish or paint is removed. Wax is removed from the grated parquet. The substrate is sanded and dust removed.

The composition is applied with a flat brush or a pistol in two layers, and during the primary processing of new wood, it is recommended to dilute the first by 5-10% with white spirit.

PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES: during work it is necessary to ventilate the room well. Use special pastes or rubber gloves to protect your hands.

CONCLUSION OF THE LABORATORY: Vernis parquet creates an even, uniform glossy surface with a slight yellowish tint. The thickness of the two-layer coating is 60 microns.

The positive properties of the material include: fast drying, excellent resistance to detergents and water, as well as good impact resistance, high hardness. Nevertheless, you should not cover the floor in public areas or crowded offices with varnish - the abrasion resistance of the material is not designed for such high loads. But in the apartment Vernis parquet will have to be in place - here it will last at least 10 years.

Marshall parke

One-component alkyd-urethane varnish (Turkey)

Image
Image

PURPOSE: varnishing of parquet and other wooden products used indoors.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

APPEARANCE: transparent composition, colorless or with a slight brownish tinge, forming a glossy surface. There is also a matt and semi-matt varnish.

DENSITY: about 0.92 kg / l.

SHARE OF DRY SUBSTANCES (by volume): 57%.

CONSUMPTION: 10-16 m2 / l per layer depending on the surface.

DRYING: "tack-free" - 1.5 hours at +20 degrees Celsius, reapplication - no earlier than 5 hours. Maximum loads are possible after 4 days, when the full chemical and physical resistance of the coating is achieved.

THINNER: white spirit.

STORAGE: 2 years in its original packaging in a cool, ventilated place.

PACKAGING: metal cans of 0.75; 2.5; 3.8 and 15 liters.

TEST RESULTS

DRYING: the minimum drying time to "degree 3" was 2.5 hours, which is less than stated. On the other hand, the manufacturer himself recommends waiting 5 hours before applying the next layer, and his advice should not be neglected.

IMPACT DURABILITY: Parke has performed well with a drop of 65 cm on a single layer and from 45 cm on a double layer.

HARDNESS: also turned out to be "at the level" - 0.28 USD. for the TML device (pendulum A) and $ 0.50 according to ME-3. Compared with the average data, the hardness of the resulting film is the same as that of polyurethane varnishes, and more than that of alkyd varnishes. This means that, for example, when moving chairs or other furniture, there will be fewer scratches on the parquet covered with Parke than on the film of most alkyd materials.

ABRASION RESISTANCE: according to measurements - 0.76 cubic mm / sq.m. This is an excellent result, indicating that under heavy loads this coating will protect the tree for a long time. Unsurprisingly, it is even used in schools and gyms.

ECOLOGICAL: contains white spirit, when applied, it has a smell. After drying, it is safe for humans and animals.

APPLICATION: in any case it is better if the surface is cycled before varnishing. Old layers of alkyd-based varnish, if they are in good condition, are carefully sanded (and then, of course, cleaned of dust).

Before use, the composition is diluted with 5% white spirit (the manufacturer recommends its own "Sentetic Tiner"), while the varnish spreads more evenly and dries faster.

Marshall Parke is applied in two or three coats with a brush, roller or spray with interlayer "cleaning" with a fine-grained "sandpaper" (this ensures better adhesion of the product to the base, and also removes possible irregularities).

PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES: during application, provide good ventilation or use a respirator. Do not work near open flames.

CONCLUSION OF THE LABORATORY: Parke forms a smooth, uniform glossy surface with a slight yellowish tint. The thickness of the two-layer coating is 60 microns. The advantages of the material include fast drying, excellent abrasion resistance, water resistance, resistance to detergents, and good hardness and impact strength. Indoors, the composition applied to a wooden base will last at least 10 years.

Tikkurila Unica Super

Alkyd-urethane varnish (Finland)

Image
Image

PURPOSE: for varnishing boats, floors, parquet, doors, window sashes.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

APPEARANCE: colorless transparent composition, forming a glossy surface; tinted to order. There is also a semi-gloss varnish.

DENSITY: 0.9 kg / l.

SHARE OF DRY SUBSTANCES: 48%.

CONSUMPTION: 1 liter for 12-14 sq.m.

DRYING: "tack-free" - 6 hours at a temperature of +23 degrees Celsius and 50% relative humidity. The second layer is applied no earlier than a day later. Fully cures and achieves maximum wear resistance within two weeks.

THINNER: white spirit 1050.

STORAGE: 5 years; in a loosely closed or incomplete container, the varnish does not withstand long-term storage. Low temperatures are allowed.

PACKAGING: metal containers 0.225 each; 0.9; 2.7 and 9 liters.

TEST RESULTS

DRYING: "grade 3" (readiness to apply the next layer) the material reached after 6 hours, which exactly coincided with the "tack-free" indicator indicated in the technical documentation of the product.

IMPACT STRENGTH: a single-layer coating withstands a drop of one kilogram from a height of 50 cm (it meets the requirements of domestic standards for paintwork materials), and a two-layer coating - from 30 cm. These indicators can be called good.

HARDNESS: for this parameter, the composition has a high result - at least 0.26 conventional units on the TML device and 0.47 conventional units. at ME-3. Moreover, if we compare the last figure with the average statistical indicators, then it turned out better than that of alkyd varnishes.

ABRASION RESISTANCE: the volume of the removed coating is only 1.26 cubic mm / sq.m, which is considered an excellent result: such a coating during operation must be "wiped" for years to a wooden base.

ECOLOGICAL: contains white spirit, when applied, it has a smell. After drying, it is safe for humans and animals.

APPLICATION: during work, the moisture content of the wood should be less than 20%, the relative humidity of the air - less than 80%, and the temperature - above +5 degrees Celsius.

New surfaces are cleaned of dirt and dust. Valuable wood species are degreased with white spirit 1050. Surfaces that are exposed to atmospheric action are primed with the Valtti-Pohjuste antiseptic compound. Remove detachments from old varnish coatings, wash with Maalipesu detergent, then rinse with clean water. The entire area is polished, dust is removed.

The composition is thoroughly mixed before use. The new tree is pre-primed with the product itself, diluted with white spirit by 20-40%. Then the varnish is applied with a brush or spray in two or three thin layers with interlayer grinding.

PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES: during application it is recommended to provide good ventilation or use a respirator. Do not work near open flames.

CONCLUSION OF THE LABORATORY: After drying Unica Super, an even, uniform glossy coating with a slight yellowish tint is obtained. The thickness of the material applied in two layers turned out to be 59 μm.

The advantages of the composition include: excellent abrasion resistance, water resistance and resistance to the effects of detergents, as well as good hardness and impact strength. On a tree indoors, it will last 10 years at least.

Trimetal-Silvatane

One-component alkyd-urethane varnish (Belgium - Holland)

Image
Image

PURPOSE: for interior woodwork.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

APPEARANCE: colorless, transparent composition, forming a glossy surface. There is also a semi-matt varnish on sale.

DENSITY: 0.92 kg / l.

DRY MATTER (by weight): 47%.

CONSUMPTION: 1 liter per 15-20 m2 in one layer with a film thickness of 26-28 microns.

DRYING: for applying the next layer - 10-12 hours at a temperature of +20 degrees Celsius; maximum loads are possible in 36-48 hours.

THINNER: white spirit.

STORAGE: 12 months in original packaging.

PACKAGING: 1 and 2.5 liter cans.

TEST RESULTS

DRYING: among the varnishes tested by us, the material turned out to be the "record holder" in terms of drying speed to "degree 3", reaching it in just 1.5 hours after application. But this does not negate the manufacturer's recommendations - it is better to cover the floor with a second layer after 10-12 hours.

LAYER THICKNESS: 60 µm in two layers, measured in the laboratory, is consistent with the manufacturer's data, which specifies the layer thickness when describing the consumption (26-28 µm per layer).

STRENGTH ON IMPACT: and according to this parameter, Trimetal-Silvatane is a clear leader in our test - the varnish film easily withstood the drop of a load on both one- and two-layer coatings from a height of 100 cm. Moreover, less hard wood "suffered" from impacts (oak parquet board) - a noticeable dent has formed on it. The varnish repeated its shape without tears and cracks, demonstrating, in addition to high strength, no less high elasticity.

HARDNESS: figures of 0.43 USD by TML device and 0.67 USD according to ME-3 - an excellent result in terms of hardness, exceeding the average statistic for polyurethane varnishes. So, with a high degree of probability, we can assume that after the furniture has been moved, there will be no scratches on the coating.

ABRASION RESISTANCE: here, however, the material "misfired" - the volume indicator was equal to 11.22 cubic mm / sq. From which it follows that such a coating will serve for a long time only in living quarters, where people walk on the floor in soft shoes.

ECOLOGICAL: contains white spirit, when applied, it has a smell. After drying, it is safe for humans and animals.

APPLICATION: old varnish in poor condition is removed using Pichoff's proprietary composition, then the surface is cleaned with white spirit and dried. The wood of tropical trees is degreased with trichlorethylene. Old layers are removed from the waxed parquet and wiped with white spirit.

On clean wood, first apply one primer coat of Silvatane Gloss, thinned 10% with white spirit by brush, roller or air spray. Then varnished with three more coats of undiluted Silvatane Gloss or Silvatane Satin (semi-matt).

PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES: during work it is necessary to ventilate the room well. Special pastes or rubber gloves are used to protect the skin of the hands.

CONCLUSION OF THE LABORATORY: Silvatane Gloss creates an even, uniform glossy surface with a slight yellowish tint. The thickness of the two-layer coating is 60 microns. The varnish film dries very quickly - in just 1.5 hours.

The positive properties of the product include: resistance to water and detergents, as well as high hardness and excellent impact strength. At the same time, it is possible that, due to the low resistance to abrasion, during operation, such a coating will need cosmetic repairs. Indoors, the material applied to a wooden base using technology will last at least 10 years.

Vivacolor Extra Lak

Alkyd-urethane varnish (Vivacolor, Latvia & Estonia)

Image
Image

PURPOSE: for external and internal work on wood (for example, boats, floors, doors, windows).

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

APPEARANCE: colorless transparent composition, forming a glossy surface. There is also a semi-gloss varnish.

DENSITY: about 0.9 kg / l.

SHARE OF DRY SUBSTANCES: 48%.

CONSUMPTION: 1 liter for 12-14 sq.m.

DRYING: "from dust" - 2 hours at a temperature of +23 degrees Celsius and a relative humidity of 50%. The next coat is applied after 24 hours. Full cure and durability is achieved after 2 weeks.

THINNER: Unit (white spirit).

STORAGE: 2 years in original packaging.

PACKAGING: metal cans of 0.9; 2.7 and 9 liters.

TEST RESULTS

DRYING: According to the test results after 4.5 hours the material was ready for overcoating ("grade 3"). This, of course, is much better than the data indicated by the manufacturer. However, it is not worth calculating the minutes - the drying conditions, the moisture content of the wood in each case differ, so it will be calmer to wait for the 24 hours indicated in the instructions.

IMPACT DURABILITY: Extra Lak has a single layer coating withstand a drop from a height of 50 cm, and a two-layer coating from 60 cm. Both figures are quite high.

HARDNESS: when measuring this parameter using the TML device (pendulum A), we obtained 0.34 conventional units, and using the ME-3 device, 0.58 conventional units. These results correspond to the average for polyurethane materials, which indicates that the material is sufficiently resistant to scratching during operation.

ABRASION RESISTANCE: 5.02 cubic mm / sq.m - a figure that cannot be called the best, but you can not attribute it to the number of bad ones. Based on this, it will be optimal to use varnish for covering the floor in rooms with a not very intensive load (for example, in apartments).

ECOLOGICAL: contains white spirit, smells when applied. After drying, it is safe for humans and animals.

APPLICATION: the moisture content of the wood should be less than 20%, the relative humidity of the air - less than 80%, and the temperature - above +5 degrees Celsius.

New surfaces free from dust and dirt. Fine woods are wiped with Unit thinner. The outside of the wood is primed with Vivaprotekt wood preservative. Clean old paint finishes with Vivaclean cleaner and rinse with water. Allow to dry well. The entire area is sanded and dust removed.

Stir the varnish thoroughly before use. On a new tree for the first layer, the composition is applied diluted by 20-40% Unit. Next, cover the base with a brush with a uniform thin layer in two or three passes, diluting the varnish, if necessary, with white spirit to 20%.

Previously lacquered surfaces are immediately treated with undiluted Extra Lak in one or two coats with intercoat sanding.

PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES: during use provide good ventilation or use a respirator. Do not work near open flames.

CONCLUSION OF THE LABORATORY: Extra Lak forms an even, uniform glossy surface with a slight yellowish tint. The lacquer film with a two-layer application has a thickness of 42 microns and dries to "grade 3" in 4.5 hours. It has good hardness and impact strength, excellent water resistance and resistance to household detergents, sufficient abrasion resistance for residential applications. The material will last at least 10 years on a parquet floor.

AU-271

One-component alkyd-urethane-based varnish (JSC "Yaroslavskie Kraski", Yaroslavl)

Image
Image

PURPOSE: covering of parquet and painted wooden floors, varnishing with oil paints, linoleum, plastic.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

APPEARANCE: colorless transparent composition, forming a glossy surface. Small shagreen is allowed.

DENSITY: 0.8-0.9 kg / l.

SHARE OF DRY SUBSTANCES (by volume): about 45%.

CONSUMPTION: about 125 g per 1 sq. M per layer, depending on the type and quality of the wood.

DRYING: for applying the next layer - 4 hours at a temperature of +20 degrees Celsius or 60 minutes. at +80 degrees Celsius. Maximum loads are possible after 4 days, when full chemical and physical resistance of the coating is achieved.

THINNER: white spirit.

STORAGE: 8 months in original packaging, protected from moisture, heat and direct sunlight.

PACKAGING: 1.8 kg metal cans.

TEST RESULTS

DRYING: The material has dried to "grade 3" in 5 hours, which is an hour longer than indicated by the manufacturer. This "time factor" should be taken into account when working with the AU-271.

IMPACT STRENGTH: 60 and 90 cm - the heights from which the single-layer and double-layer coatings, respectively, adequately withstood the fall of the load. The conclusion from this is this: accidental "blows" should not cause significant damage to the varnish film.

HARDNESS: by TML - 0.56 USD The technical specifications of the product indicate that the hardness of the varnish film becomes at least 0.5 cu. on the device ME-3 after 24 hours of keeping it under normal conditions. Our experience with the same device showed a higher result - 0.7 cu. Apparently, this is due to the fact that the sample, in accordance with the conditions of these tests, "stood" a little longer than indicated by the manufacturer (14 days). Hence the "additional" hardness. This figure is higher than the average data for polyurethane varnishes and indicates a low probability of scratches on the material during use.

ABRASION RESISTANCE: volumetric index - 5.1 cubic mm / sq.m. This varnish can be recommended for floors in residential and office premises with little traffic.

ECOLOGICAL: contains white spirit, when applied, it has a smell. After drying, it is safe for humans and animals.

APPLICATION: parquet is polished and polished, other surfaces are cleaned of dust and dirt.

Before use, the film is removed from the varnish (it can form during long-term storage), then it is thoroughly mixed, if necessary, diluted with white spirit, turpentine or acetone. Apply on a prepared dry base with a brush or roller in two passes over the parquet, on the rest of the substrates - in one.

PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES: during work, as well as within 48 hours after their completion, it is necessary to ventilate the room well. Special pastes or rubber gloves are used to protect the skin of the hands.

CONCLUSION OF THE LABORATORY: AU-271 forms an even, uniform glossy surface with a slight yellowish tint. The thickness of the two-layer coating is 70 microns. To "grade 3" the varnish dries in 5 hours.

The advantages of the composition include: excellent water resistance and resistance to the effects of detergents, as well as high hardness and impact strength. The lacquer film has sufficient abrasion resistance for residential premises. In such conditions, it will serve for ten years.

Palace

One-component alkyd-urethane-based varnish, TU 2311-007-44316046-98 (NPK "Palitra", St. Petersburg)

Image
Image

PURPOSE: finishing of wood products, wood and parquet floors, deck structures of boats and yachts.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

APPEARANCE: colorless transparent composition, forming a glossy surface.

DENSITY: 0.89 kg / l.

SHARE OF DRY SUBSTANCES (by volume): 47%.

CONSUMPTION: 40-60 g / m2 in one layer depending on the surface.

DRYING: for applying the next layer - 10-12 hours at a temperature of +20 degrees Celsius. Ready for operation in 36-48 hours.

THINNER: white spirit.

STORAGE: 6 months in original packaging.

PACKAGING: 0.9 l metal cans.

TEST RESULTS

DRYING: The varnish is dry to "grade 3" (ready for overcoating) after 3.5 hours. The indicator is quite good, although, like with other compounds we tested, it is rather statistical - it indicates the required minimum of time. For the "completeness" of curing, one should be guided by the TU (technical conditions) for the product, where the drying time interval between layers is 10-12 hours.

STRENGTH ON IMPACT: among the materials presented at "Dvortsovoy" this parameter turned out to be one of the best: it withstood a drop of a load from 60 cm to a single-layer one and from 100 cm to a two-layer coating. So accidental "shock loads" should not cause significant damage to the lacquer layer.

HARDNESS: the result is quite high. According to the TML device, it was 0.49 cu, and according to ME-3 - 0.68 cu, which is better than the average statistical data for polyurethane varnishes.

ABRASION RESISTANCE: the volumetric index of the material removed during the test is 9.94 cubic mm / m2. Quite a "gentle" indicator. In the sense that intensive walking in street shoes is not good for such a varnish. Here, by the way, the palaces-museums involuntarily come to mind (the lacquer "Palace"), where tourists are offered special slippers or laid carpet. At the same time, for the home (when using soft shoes), the varnish performance is quite good.

ECOLOGICAL: contains white spirit, when applied, it has a smell. After drying, it is safe for humans and animals.

APPLICATION: the base is cleaned of peeling coatings, mastic, dust and other contaminants.

The composition is thoroughly mixed, if necessary, diluted with white spirit to a convenient viscosity and applied to a clean, dry surface with a brush, roller or spray gun in two to three layers.

PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES: when carrying out work, the room should be well ventilated, and to protect the skin of your hands, use special pastes or rubber gloves.

CONCLUSION OF THE LABORATORY: "Palace" creates a smooth, uniform glossy surface with a colorless film of varnish. The thickness of the two-layer coating is 70 microns. The material has high impact strength and hardness, while the abrasion data is below average.

The varnish is characterized by excellent water resistance and resistance to detergents. Indoors, the composition applied to the tree will last at least 10 years.

Polyur

One-component alkyd-urethane-based varnish (LLC "Lakma-color", Moscow)

Image
Image

PURPOSE: for parquet.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

APPEARANCE: colorless transparent composition, forming a glossy surface. There is also a matte varnish.

DENSITY: 0.85 kg / l.

SHARE OF DRY SUBSTANCES (by volume): not less than 43%.

DRYING: for applying the next layer - 4 hours at a temperature of +20 degrees Celsius. Maximum loads are possible after 24 hours.

CONSUMPTION: 150-200 g / m2 per layer.

THINNER: white spirit.

STORAGE: 12 months in original packaging.

PACKAGING: metal cans of 2 liters.

TEST RESULTS

DRYING: to "grade 3" the composition has dried in 3.5 hours, which meets the data specified in the technical standard of the product.

IMPACT STRENGTH: for this parameter, the results were as follows: one layer of material withstood a drop of a load of 1 kg from a height of 40 cm, without cracking or peeling, but two layers did not "survive" a fall even from 15 cm. Conclusion: the coating is "delicate "and treat him with care.

HARDNESS: turned out to be the best among the materials we tested, showing 0.49 on TML and 0.73 c.u. - on ME-3, which exceeds the average performance for polyurethane varnishes. As a matter of fact, this is declared on the label: "Varnish … with the addition of various special purpose additives, which ensure quick drying and hardness." So everything is fair.

ABRASION RESISTANCE: volumetric value - 5.61 cubic mm / sq.m - quite at the level for varnishes used in rooms with medium load. From this point of view, "Polyur" is best suited for parquet works in apartments, offices with a small number of visitors, etc.

ECOLOGICAL: contains white spirit, when applied, it has a faint odor. After drying, it is safe for humans and animals.

APPLICATION: parquet is pre-cycled, sanded and free from dust.

The varnish is thoroughly mixed and, if necessary, diluted with white spirit. Moreover, in order to save money for the first layer, it can be diluted even by 20%. They are applied by spraying, roller or brush in two or three passes.

PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES: when carrying out work, the room must be well ventilated, the skin of the hands is protected with special pastes or rubber gloves.

CONCLUSION OF THE LABORATORY: "Polyur" forms an even, homogeneous glossy surface with a slight yellowish tint.

The thickness of the two-layer coating is 90 microns. The advantages of the material are fast drying, excellent water resistance, resistance to detergents, and high hardness. The coating is poorly resistant to shock loads. It has sufficient abrasion resistance for residential premises.

With not too intensive use, the varnish layer on the parquet can last at least 10 years.

PS At the beginning of 2002 the name "Polyur" was changed to "One-component alkyd-urethane varnish" and the label changed accordingly.

PURPOSE: covering of parquet and wooden floors with normal operating load; finishing of other wooden surfaces inside and outside.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

APPEARANCE: transparent liquid; after drying it forms a homogeneous glossy film. There is also a semi-matt and matt varnish.

DENSITY: 0.8 kg / l.

SHARE OF DRY SUBSTANCES: 40-50%.

CONSUMPTION: 1 liter per 10-13 square meters, depending on the condition and type of surface.

DRYING: "from dust" - 2 hours at a temperature of +20 degrees Celsius and a relative humidity of 50%. The next layer is applied after 8 hours. You can walk in soft shoes after 12 hours. It is finally cured after 7 days.

THINNER: white spirit.

STORAGE: 6 months in original packaging, protected from moisture and direct sunlight. Withstands storage and transportation at low temperatures.

PACKAGING: 1 metal cans; 3 and 10 liters.

TEST RESULTS

DRYING: Measured to "grade 3" the material dries quickly - in just 3 hours. This is 5 hours less than the time stated in the TU. Nevertheless, we were in no hurry to apply the next layer, but kept the deadline specified by the manufacturer.

IMPACT STRENGTH: Tests were carried out on two samples. On one of them the varnish was applied in one layer, and on the other - in two. It turned out that a single-layer coating withstands a drop of load from a height of 70 cm, and a two-layer coating - from half a meter. Both indicators are very good.

HARDNESS: the technical documentation indicates the value of the film hardness by the TML device (pendulum A) - not less than 0.4 conventional units with a layer thickness of 20-30 microns. On the same device, we got 0.39 cu, which corresponds to the manufacturer's data. Tests on the ME-3 device also showed a rather high value of the coating hardness - 0.62 conventional units. This figure corresponds to the average data for polyurethane varnishes. Hence the conclusion - the likelihood of scratches when moving furniture is small.

ABRASION RESISTANCE: it is pleasant that the "leader" in tests on the most important parameter was the domestic varnish, which showed the best result - 0.56 cubic mm / sq.m. Thus, among the materials we have chosen, the coating of Lux varnish will be more durable with the same traffic intensity.

ECOLOGICAL: contains white spirit, therefore, when applied, it has a smell. After drying, it is safe for humans and animals.

APPLICATION: The base must be dry, free from dust, grease, oil, mastic and other contaminants. Wooden surfaces are cleaned, polished, dust removed.

The composition is thoroughly mixed before use. On the old coating, a control varnishing of a small area is carried out to check the compatibility of the materials. If the result is positive, first the open tree is primed in the same way as a new one - with a product diluted with white spirit by 10%, and then, after drying, undiluted "Lux" is applied at a temperature not lower than +15 degrees Celsius with a special brush in two layers, with interlayer grinding.

PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES: during work it is necessary to provide good ventilation or use a respirator. Do not use near open flames.

CONCLUSION OF THE LABORATORY: forms an even, homogeneous glossy surface with a colorless varnish film (the thickness of the two-layer coating is 78 microns). Dries quickly. It has excellent abrasion resistance, resistance to detergents and water, high hardness and impact strength. The durability of the material is at least 10 years when used indoors.
