Whitewashing is the easiest and cheapest way to repair a ceiling.

Whitewashing is most often used for coloring, which can be prepared from slaked lime or chalk. It is necessary to start the painting process from the most important and time-consuming stage - the preparation of the surface to be painted. Here you need:

  • Wash off old paint or whitewash with warm water (or dry with a scraper);

    Smooth out the plaster and repair cracks in it. Before sealing the crack, cut and widen it with a special spatula (triangular) or scraper, and also beat off the peeling plaster with a hammer.

    Crevices and cracks must be moistened, and then filled with the same mortar from which the plaster is made.

    Damages to lime plaster are rubbed with a lime mortar consisting of one part of lime slurry, two parts of fine, carefully sifted sand and water. Lime is diluted with water to the consistency of sour cream, then sand and water are added until a thick mass is obtained. If slaked lime is used to prepare the solution, then first it should be mixed with sand and only then water should be added.

    For lime-gypsum plasters, a solution is used consisting of one part of gypsum, one part of hydrated lime and three parts of sifted sand. First, the dry components are mixed, and then, adding water, the mass is brought to the consistency of thick sour cream. The solution should be used immediately, as it hardens within a few minutes after preparation.

    Gypsum mortar consists of one part of gypsum and two parts of fine sieved sand.

    Cracks are sealed with putty using a spatula, passing it first across the crack, then along. The putty is completed by grouting the treated surfaces with fine sandpaper or pumice.

    Between the ceiling tiles, at the doors, windows, in the corners, it is advisable not just to seal the gap with a solution, but to additionally strengthen it, for example, with a serpentine.

    Prime the ceiling.

    After the soil has dried, you can start whitewashing.

    Recommended composition:

    - chalk - 2300g;

    - joiner's glue - 90g;

    - blue - 17g;

    - laundry soap - 60g;

    - water (up to working density) - 3-4 liters.

    The glue is first dissolved in water. The remaining components are diluted with water so that the whitewash can be applied with a spray bottle. A solution prepared from such a number of components is enough for processing about 10 sq.m. 2-3 layers are applied to the ceiling with intermediate drying.

    If you have to whitewash the ceiling without a spray gun, we recommend using a roller. The surface will acquire a pleasant matte sheen. You cannot force drying and create drafts. In addition, try to neutralize direct sunlight, otherwise all work can go down the drain - the whitewash will peel off.
